What is a license plate recognition camera?

A license plate recognition (LPR) camera captures each vehicle's plate and software turns it into searchable text. Your business gets a log of which vehicles came and went, alerts on specific vehicles, and the ability to find footage by plate number instead of scrolling through hours of video.

Turner Security adds license plate recognition to business camera systems at gates, entrances and drive lanes, often using the Eagle Eye cloud video platform so it works alongside the cameras you already have. The system is yours: you decide which plates to flag and who can see the data.

What LPR does

Know which vehicles come and go

License plate recognition is most useful where every vehicle passes the same point.

Plate log

A searchable record of every plate that passes your gate or entrance, with the video clip attached.

Vehicle alerts

Get notified when a flagged vehicle arrives, or when a vehicle moves through at a set time or in a set direction.

Gate and access control

Pair plate reads with your access control so known vehicles are let in and unknown ones are reviewed.

Live monitoring

Monitoring agents can see plate alerts and respond while a vehicle is still on site.

Search by plate

Jump to the right footage in seconds instead of scrubbing through recordings after an incident.

Works with your cameras

We review your current cameras and add plate-reading cameras only where existing ones cannot read plates clearly.

Where it fits

Built for lots, yards and gated sites

License plate recognition works best at a choke point, such as a gate, an entrance lane or a parking garage ramp. Dealerships, equipment yards, warehouses, apartment communities and multi-site companies use it to know who is on site and to settle questions after an incident.

Camera placement matters more than anything. A plate-reading camera needs the right angle, distance and lighting, so we walk the site before recommending equipment.

Common questions

Questions we hear a lot

How is this different from Flock cameras?

Flock cameras are typically bought by police departments, cities and HOAs, and the data is shared with law enforcement networks. A business LPR system from Turner Security is installed on your property for your own security, and your business decides how the data is used.

Can my existing cameras read license plates?

Sometimes. Plate reading needs the right angle, distance, shutter speed and lighting. We review your current cameras and add plate-reading cameras only where they are needed.

Does LPR work at night?

Yes, when the camera is chosen and placed for it. Plate-reading cameras use infrared and settings designed to capture moving plates in low light.

Can LPR open our gate for known vehicles?

It can be paired with access control so recognized vehicles are handled automatically. We confirm what your gate and access system support during the walkthrough.

Where do you install license plate recognition cameras?

For businesses across Nashville, Middle Tennessee, the Chattanooga area and North Georgia, plus multi-site companies through our national accounts program.
