Tips for Protecting Your Home

We want you to enjoy your summer vacation with your family and not have to worry about if your home is protected. So we have put together a list of tips for protecting your home and keep your worry free while you vacation.

Have a Reliable Home Security System

Protect your home with a reliable home security system. We have several options and can customize a security system that best meets your needs. Plus we offer 24/7 monitoring service, so let us take care of your home while you enjoy some relaxation and sunshine.

DO NOT Advertise Your Absence

Avoid posting on social media about you vacation. This can invite unwanted attention and can alert people to the fact that you are not home. If you must share your photos do so once you are back from vacation.

Install Outdoor Lights

Outdoor lights with motion sensors will help deter unwanted guests while you are away.

Use Smart Systems

There are several smart systems currently available that work well whether you are on vacation, running errand, or at work. A Sky Bell can help give the illusion that you may in fact be home. If someone activates the motion detector on the skybell by walking on your porch or rings the front door you will be alerted on your phone. You can also use the two way communication feature to speak with whomever is at your door through your phone.

DO NOT Clean Your House Too Much

By going overboard on cleaning you can actually alert burglars that you may be away. Make sure your home looks like it normally does, so that it gives off the impression that you are carrying on as your normally do. If your children leave their toys and shoes all around the house or the yard, make sure that you leave somethings out and do not get carried away by picking all of it up.

Store Your Valuables in a Safe

When you are ready to head out on your vacation, go ahead and lock your valuables away in a safe and out of harm’s way just in case your home does get broken into while you are gone. This way you know that those family heirlooms and other things of value are safe and hidden away.

DO NOT Leave Your Hidden Keys

While you are on vacation go ahead and gather up all of those hidden keys you have hidden around the yard. This way you can help minimize the risk of having someone use them in order to gain entry into your home. If you need to leave a spare key for someone try hiding it somewhere in your garage and having them use your garage code to be able to access it.

Take Your Garage Door Openers

If you are leaving your car(s) in the driveway make sure that you take your garage door openers inside until you return. This is easy access for burglars when looking at ways to gain access to the inside of your home.

Stop Your Mail

Go online to usps.com and put a hold on your mail. You can use the system online to have them hold it at the post office while you are gone and will be able to set the delivery date for the day you get home or the day after, whichever you prefer.

Contact Your Home Security Company

It is always a good idea to let your security monitoring company know that you are going to be out of town. This way they can be aware in the unlikelihood that your alarm does go off or something out of the ordinary is reported. Turner Security provides home security solutions.
